Tampa Bay goalie Vasilevskiy named playoffs MVP | Reuters

Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy won the Conn Smythe Trophy on Wednesday as the most valuable player in the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup Playoffs after leading his team to the championship.

The Russian netminder stopped 22 shots in the championship-clinching win over Montreal for his fifth shutout of the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs and fourth in a series-winning game.

Vasilevskiy is only the 14th goalie in NHL history to win the Conn Smythe Trophy and the first since Jonathan Quick was awarded the trophy in 2012 with the champion Los Angeles Kings.

"It's all about the experience and how your team is playing in front of you," Vasilevskiy said in a report on the National Hockey League's website.

"The last two playoffs we've been pretty consistent throughout all four rounds. When the team is playing like this in front of you, you get lots of confidence from them and just try to help them however you can, just try to be at your best every night for the guys."
